MANFRED WERDER_NEW WORKS_Audiograft Festival_Oxford_ February March

The Audiograft Festival in Oxford invited Swiss composer and soundartist Manfred Werder to exhibit a new work at the “Old Fire Station” gallery space. Werder conceived and wrote a new composition with the title “2012/1” which rendered musically the physical and mental conditions of the gallery. This new work was presented alongside US soundartist Ben Owen’s work. Both works encouraged the viewers to engage with the space that surrounded them and to consider the exhibition as a field in which their actions became events. The total environment of the exhibition fused as understated actions, such as the footfalls of visitors and the change in natural light throughout the day, became equally important to the work as the exhibits. Alongside the exhibition the curator team Compost and Height published in paper form and for digital download their magazine “Wolf Notes 3”, in which Dr Will Montgomery from Royal Holloway University London wrote an essay especially for the occasion of the exhibition.
