Fran├žoise and Daniel Cartier_Ffotogallery & Turner House_Cardiff

Fran├žoise and Daniel Cartier presented three significant bodies of recent work at the Ffotogallery in Cardiff, and also featured as one of the key exhibitions at this year’s Diffusion - Cardiff International Festival of Photography. Since 1995 the artists have merged their practices, plastic arts and photography, to discover new approaches, examining the indispensable prerequisites for photography: light and photosensitive paper. They mainly make ‘camera-less’ works incorporating found objects. Their most recent work Wait and See (2011/12) explores the chromatic evolution of photosensitive paper they have collected over several years, dating from 1880 to the 1980s. Roses (2006) uses daylight photograms, and Veni Etiam (2010) digitally reinterprets original albumen glass plates found in Venice.
