JocJonJosch_Worstward Ho!_Art Licks Festival_London

Worstward Ho! or the ‘round boat project’ by the performance collective JocJonJosch was launched on the River Lea as part of the Art Licks Weekend programme, the first Performance Art Festival in London. Subsequent to the performance the beautifully crafted boat was exhibited at Bosse & Baum Gallery London, where video and photographic work by the Anglo-Swiss-Slovakian collective was also on display. The exhibition will be travelling for a major exhibition to the Valais Art Museum in Sion, Switzerland and will be on display in early 2014. Worstward Ho! is a project which is part of JocJonJosch’s series of Investigations into Collaboration. It expresses the collective’s process and dynamic in the form of a round boat with three oars, in which the collective grapples towards a destination. The boat is a useable sculpture – its significance is not in any specific journey but instead in the ambiguous and challenging journey that it suggests. It is an exhausting exercise and the collaborators often feel as if they are going nowhere, that they are turning in circles.
