Swiss Musicians_London Jazz Festival 2014_nov/dec

With the record figures of the previous London Jazz Festival: live audience 100,000+, 6000 people involved in Learning & Participation projects, 2500 artists, 650 hours of live music, 62 venues, 60 free events, 40 hours of broadcasting on BBC Radio and all of this within 10 days, the Swiss Cultural Fund didn’t miss the opportunity to collaborate with partners such as Serious Events Ltd to create a platform for Swiss musicians during this outstanding event. Swiss-championed contemporary distinctive works were part of the show during all parts of the Festival including concerts and the Learning and Development programme: Tobias Preisig Quartet at the Barbican and the Southbank Centre for a concert and workshop, Rusconi at Kings Place, Plaistow Trio Johan Bouquenez, Vincent Ruiz and Cyril Bondi at Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, and Andreas Schaerer and Lucas Niggli at Club Inégales.

This Swiss platform for contemporary music could be summed up by a review in The Guardian by John Fordham: “Swiss electric violinist Tobias Preisig subsumed his obvious virtuosity into the dark and hard grooving group sound of a promising young quartet who clearly know a lot about contemporary music, as well as one another”.
