Clare Kenny’s multidisciplinary work embraces a vast range of media including found objects, building materials, neon and photography. Industrial Romantic at Touchstones Rochdale was Kenny’s first solo exhibition at a British arts institution. The fact that the artist grew up in the area inspired a body of work reflecting on her childhood, family history and her life far from home in Switzerland. Kenny chose to present existing and new work that reflected many of the recurring motifs and concerns in her artistic practice. Through subtle gestures and assemblages, and drawing on her own memories and experience, she suggested new narratives by exploring the no-man’s-land between truth and fiction.
