Contemporary musicians Ensemble ö! from Grisons were invited to perform at the 2018 London Ear Festival of Contemporary Music. They chose to open their versatile programme with a world première composed by Swiss pianist and member of Ensemble ö! Asia Ahmetjanova. Additionally, the event saw UK premières of compositions by Japanese composer Misato Mochizuki, Swiss composer Roland Moser as well as Ensemble ö!’s musical director and violinist David Sontòn Caflisch. The night concluded with O King composed by Luciano Berio and Lotuses by Jonathan Harvey. The former was written as a dedication to Martin Luther King, while the latter was inspired by Buddhist writings on the lotus flower. Ensemble ö! was founded in 2002 by violinist and composer David Santòn Caflisch and they have been active contributors to the Swiss contemporary music scene ever since.
