6ix consists of six musicians who are among the leading protagonists of the free-improvising music scene in Europe. Following a Landis & Gyr Foundation residency in London, Jacques Demierre brought the collective to Café Oto, one of London’s most important venues for contemporary and experimental music. The assemblage of British and Swiss musicians resulted in an atmospheric soundscape defying linear musical patterns. Urs Leimgruber enriched the saxophone sound with new playing techniques by Jacques Demierre on the piano, who has developed a unique operating style. Cellist Hannah Marshall drew new qualities from her instrument; musician Roger Turner defied any categorisation; vocalist Dorothea Schürch incorporated a wide range of sound effects; and finally Thomas Lehn worked deliberately with analogue electronic sounds specific to the live improvised music
