6ix consists of six musicians who are among the leading protagonists of the improvised music scene in Europe. Following a Landis & Gyr Foundation residency in London, Jacques Demièrre brought the collective to Café Oto, one of London’s most important venues for contemporary and experimental music. The assemblage of British and Swiss musicians resulted in an atmospheric soundscape defying linear musical patterns. Each musician brings a specific quality to the 6IX sound. Urs Leimgruber, who is active in the fields of contemporary improvisation, jazz and new music, extends his saxophone sound through new playing techniques, while pianist, performer and composer Jacques Demièrre explores the various soundscapes offered by the piano. The two Swiss musicians improvised alongside cellist Hannah Marshall, percussionist Roger Turner, vocalist Dorothea Schürch and Thomas Lehn who works with analogue electronic sounds.
